Sophie Hoozée

Sophie Hoozée is Associate Professor of Management Accounting and Control at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Ghent University (Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation) and a member of the Cancer Research Institute Ghent (CRIG). She teaches BSc and MSc courses on cost accounting, management accounting and management control.

Her research focuses on the design of costing systems and management control systems in contexts with a societal impact, such as health care and recycling. Sophie is an editorial board member of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and Social & Environmental Accountability Journal. She has published in numerous journals, such as Accounting, Organizations and Society (2020, 2024), Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal (2022, 2025), European Accounting Review (2018, 2022), and Management Accounting Research (2010, 2013, 2022, 2023). She is a co-author of several textbooks and book chapters.

Sophie is actively engaged with the IBR-IRE (the National Institute of Statutory Auditors), where she serves as a board member of the competence centre ICCI, fulfills the role of jury chair of the proficiency examinations and participates as a jury member on the judging panel for the Belgian Awards for Sustainability Reports. Furthermore, Sophie holds a position as a non-executive board member at Primoris Group, as well as an independent non-executive board member and chair of the audit committee at Europabank.

Sophie Hoozée is hoofddocent management accounting en controle aan de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde van de Universiteit Gent (vakgroep Accountancy, Bedrijfsfinanciering en Fiscaliteit) en lid van het Cancer Research Institute Ghent (CRIG). Ze doceert bachelor- en mastervakken over kostprijsberekening, management accounting en beheerscontrole.

Haar onderzoek richt zich op het ontwerp van kostprijs- en beheerscontrolesystemen in contexten met een maatschappelijke impact, zoals de gezondheidszorg en recyclage. Sophie is redactielid van Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal en Social & Environmental Accountability Journal. Ze heeft gepubliceerd in tal van tijdschriften, waaronder Accounting, Organizations and Society (2020, 2024), Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal (2022, 2025), European Accounting Review (2018, 2022), en Management Accounting Research (2010, 2013, 2022, 2023). Ze is mede-auteur van verschillende leerboeken en boekhoofdstukken.

Sophie is actief betrokken bij het IBR-IRE (Instituut van de Bedrijfsrevisoren), waar ze bestuurslid is van het competentiecentrum ICCI. Daarnaast is ze er juryvoorzitter bij de bekwaamheidsexamens en jurylid voor de Belgian Awards for Sustainability Reports. Verder is Sophie niet-uitvoerend bestuurder bij Primoris Group en onafhankelijk niet-uitvoerend bestuurder en voorzitter van het auditcomité bij Europabank.
